Social Security Representative Payee for Your Caree
To manage a caree's Social Security benefits, you must be designated a representative payee.
Changes are coming to the support offered through the Social Security Administration. The changes may make it harder to reach Social Security with a question or problem about benefits. (Read about the changes happening March 31.)
If your caree receives Social Security benefits, consider becoming your caree's Representative Payee.
In order to negotiate and manage your caree's Social Security or SSI benefits, you must be a Representative Payee. Being an authorized representative, having power of attorney, or a joint bank account with the beneficiary does not give legal authority to negotiate and manage a beneficiary's Social Security and/or SSI benefits.
To manage a caree's Social Security benefits, you must be designated a representative payee. Your caree can designate three.
