We’re creating awareness of the family caregiver experience during National Family Caregivers Month, which happens in November.
We’d love to gather your data about your caregiving experience. We’ll then combine all our data to share a true snapshot of what caregiving is like for us right now.
I’ve created a five-minute survey to capture some of your caregiving data. You may find that some of our questions don’t apply to your current situation; you can simply skip them.
We want to collect your data, whether your caregiving situation started a few months or a few decades ago. All the data matters because all the situations matter.
After you complete your survey, you will receive a Certificate of Recognition for all you do and access to social media templates you can personalize with your data.
Our Goal
We want to arm you with data that helps you share your story and engage in a conversation about caregiving. For instance, if the graph above reflects my experiences, I can share my stats on social media and that my longest hold time was when I filed a Medicare appeal about a decision to discharge my mom from a skilled nursing facility to home. I can then ask, “When have you filed an appeal with your caree’s insurance company?” (I lost the appeal, unfortunately. Another question could be: When have you won an appeal with your caree’s insurance provider?)
We’ll share more ideas on how you can start the conversation and how you can access your templates once you complete the survey.
We also want to share the compelling snapshot of the reality of caregiving in a way that speaks to the challenges, day-to-day work and complicated situations we manage.
We’ll share the collection of data with you on a regular basis, including next month. (Scroll down for details.)
Your Numbers
Before you complete the survey, you may want to have these numbers handy:
The total number of family members and friends you’ve helped (your carees) as well as the total number of your caregiving years.
The number of late-night emergencies, your caree’s ER and hospital visits during the past 24 months, and doctors appointments during the past 30 days.
The number of meds you manage (refill, organize and/or dispense), the longest hold time you’ve had during a phone call with a provider, insurer or supplier, and the miles you travel during a three-month period.
The five words that describe you.
Your caregiving stage. You can take our six stages assessment or use our cheat sheet.
