Thanks for this. I always felt so guilty when I "rejected" certain kinds of help-- but I knew that help could potentially upset the careful balance. That particular balance was so hard to explain (if Mom sees someone in the driveway, she will think that person is coming to buy the house, etc. etc. etc.). You've put it so well here.
Oh, gosh, the guilt! Sometimes, help really doesn't work. When it doesn't work, it's a nightmare!! I think we often consider help and then decide it's not right for right now. We alway can re-visit. You are thoughtful and compassionate about your mom's needs, Sarah. I hope that you can replace "guilt" with "thoughtful and compassionate" instead.
