Tell Us What Weighs Heavy on You
We understand what it's like to keep something painful in. Let it out in a private Listening Session with a trained Volunteer Listener on October 10.
On October 10, during the Caregiving Listener Project, I'm telling a story about how doctors missed my mom's Parkinson's diagnosis until 11 months before she died.
My story is really about the guilt I feel that I didn't figure this out myself, even though I'm not a doctor. That little fact (I'm not a doctor) doesn't really ease my self-recrimination.
It's a story of regret that I carry that I'd like to release. So I will on October 10.
I'll meet in a private Zoom room with a trained Volunteer Listener. It will be just the two of us. I'll take four minutes to share that story and how it weighs on me. Then, my Volunteer Listener will engage me in a conversation about that story.
All told, this experience, of releasing a story to release my stress, will take about 30 minutes out of my day. I know, though, that the rest of my day will feel lighter. I will feel better.
I'd love for you to join me as a Story Teller on October 10. You can choose a 30-minute time slot that works with your day.

This is amazing.
This is so important. Thank you for doing this Denise.
I have some feelings around internalized blame for not noticing things were going south for Tony - while he was in hospital. I spoke about it in a video I did for Patients for Patient Safety Canada for World Patient Safety Day in September (https://youtu.be/ezo1KB_VTsk?si=fKUEb_9bpRqfULzB)
I think a lot of care partners and family members carry this same guilt and blame, when it's not really ours to carry.
